V is for 'Victory' in Balanced Ventilation
BY HHI STAFF
The Healthy House Institute (HHI) and the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) are partnering to educate consumers about "Balanced Ventilation" in today's tighter homes - a form of equilibrium that is truly a "Victory" for indoor air quality (IAQ) in modern green homes.
"From HHI's perspective, it has been very rewarding to become educated about the many resources available through the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) to assist consumers, builders, and contractors in achieving balanced ventilation and, ultimately, a Victory for the indoor environment," said Allen Rathey, president of The Healthy House Institute (HHI).
"By providing an equivalent amount of fresh air indoors to match or equal the amounts of stale, polluted inside air exhausted to the outdoors through proper mechanical ventilation, Balanced Ventilation is a Victory for healthier indoor spaces," said Jacki Donner, Executive Director and CEO of the Home Ventilating Institute (HVI). "HVI is committed to helping consumers choose cost-effective, performance-validated ventilation products - fans and heat recovery, energy recovery and other ventilators - to achieve indoor balance, helping ensure fresh indoor air for the health of their loved ones, at the lowest energy and long-term cost."
"We cannot overemphasize the importance of the 'V' in 'HVAC' - which stands for Heating, Ventilating and Air Conditioning - and that it also means a health Victory in homes when balanced, high performance, HVI-certified ventilation systems are chosen," noted Rathey.
The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) is a non-profit organization focused on making sure ventilation products meet high standards that help protect health. What does HVI's Certified Ratings Program provide?
For starters, HVI Certifies products for the following attributes to help consumers make the best choices:
- Sound Level
- Energy Efficiency
Choosing HVI-Certified products also provides consumers with the confidence that they are choosing a product that has been tested and certified to meet specific industry standards, a guarantee the product will perform as promised, and assurance that, when the equipment is installed correctly, the home will receive proper balanced ventilation to maximize indoor air quality.
The HVI-Certified Products Directory (CPD) is updated monthly and includes more than 3,200 residential ventilation products, providing builders and consumers with a wide range of balanced ventilation options suitable for the varying climates and housing throughout North America. The Home Ventilating Institute (HVI) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to advancing balanced residential ventilation for healthier living. HVI has also released a short video to raise consumer awareness about the importance of proper ventilation in the home. The video provides consumers an overview of the need for balanced ventilation products to extract pollutants, and directs them to pages on HVI's website for additional education and resources.
