HVI promotes healthier indoor air through ventilation and supports better living through the smart use of energy. As an ENERGY STAR®-approved Certification Body, HVI works with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) to streamline the process of qualifying ventilation products. ENERGY STAR® qualification requires that residential ventilation products are tested according to HVI procedures and relies on HVI-Certified ratings. Once a manufacturer is approved by EPA as an ENERGY STAR® Partner, product data can be submitted directly to HVI for ENERGY STAR® qualification and approval. A listing of all ENERGY STAR® qualified ventilating fans, can be found on the ENERGY STAR® website here.
Manufacturers are required to register products "sold or offered for sale" in California with the California Energy Commission (CEC) under Title 20 of the California Code of Regulations. HVI is approved by CEC as a Third-Party Certifier and will transmit applicable product data directly to CEC upon request by manufacturers participating in the HVI-Certified Ratings Program.

Canada’s Energy Efficiency Act and Energy Efficiency Regulations are administered by Natural Resources Canada (NRCan). Heat and energy recovery ventilators (H/ERVs) are regulated products that must meet federal energy efficiency standards in order to be imported into Canada or shipped from one province or territory to another for the purpose of sale or lease. Regulated products must bear an energy efficiency verification (EEV) mark from a certification body (CB) accredited for energy efficiency certification and verification by the Standards Council of Canada (SCC). HVI is the SCC-accredited CB for H/ERVs in Canada and all H/ERVs imported into Canada or shipped from one province or territory to another for the purpose of sale or lease must bear the HVI mark. As the SCC-accredited CB for H/ERVs, HVI works with NRCan to streamline the process of qualifying H/ERVs. With manufacturer authorization, HVI may submit the required Energy Efficiency Report to NRCan for final approval and addition to the NRCan Searchable Products List.
